may I play ANY music? and if so how are the license fees handled?

Unless the artists have given you permission to broadcast those songs then you'll have to get a license and that does cost a considerable amount though there are several services which offer it at a cheaper price such as swcast.net .

Hi,
Having direct contact with the people involved (artists, management, record labels) always helps, we have found this out but do NOT ever abuse the relationships you build with above mentioned people and respect them ;)

Licences are costly, although if servers are based in the USA even though you are broadcasting from the UK there is an argument there, always have a licence as a backup and stay legal is the best suggestion ;)
