Advice please

We have agreed that a well known music star / singer is going to do a weekly DJ show for us, that he is insisting he has to do live.

We have never really done this before, well we have, but just using BUTT to chat and then streaming music down the Microphone from an IPAD (bad I know, but it didnt sound too bad to be honest!).

Current DJ's shows are all recorded shows.

But, this fella is a professional and we want to do it right. So......

Can someone please tell me the set up (in the plainest language possible please) required to enable this chap to do a weekly Live DJ show incl chat on AnfieldFM?

If possible including links to hardware that you have used and would recommend.

Thanks in advance anyone who wants to help us out.

Hi rocketradio,

Ok, well this depends really on the type of equipment that they are used to and wish to use for the shows? Are they going to be playing music the traditional way with vinyl / cd turntables or will they be using DJ software? If you could clarify this, then we can point you in the right direction. :)

Definately a mixing unit and a CD Player

OK, well do you have CD turntables and a DJ mixer already, or will he be providing this equipment?

The DJ mixers output will basically need to go into your soundcards input, you can then use BUTT (as before) to stream the audio to your server from the computer.

What soundcard do you currently run on your system? Any idea on the type of DJ mixer at all? If you can clarify at all on this information, we can then tell you the way to go about connecting this all up for the shows. :)

No, we don't have any equipment as yet so are open to recommendations on all fronts.

We are talking about someone else's laptop as well, so I dont know what soundcard he has, but can find out if you know how we can establish what soundcard he has.

Right OK, we see.

Ideally, you perhaps would want to see if you can borrow some from someone, or maybe they supply their own (if possible) if its only going to be for the odd show. Professional CDJ's (such as the Pioneer range for example) and a decent mixer are pretty expensive. Even some of the cheaper CD turntables and mixers will still set you back a good few hundred quid. But of course, this all really depends on your budget.

It might be worth having a look on Ebay or something to see what bargains may be about?
