UPDATE : We have successfully tested the new Geo Locking system and we have already enabled this on behalf of some clients. If anyone needs this send us a list of countries you would like blocked along with your username.

We have just finished localised testing of some new features that will allow our clients to Geo Lock their radio servers. Geo Locking (aka Geo IP Blocking) is the ability to block certain countries from accessing content. This feature is useful for any clients who are required by their radio license to limit broadcasting to certain countries. This is achieved by maintaining databases of worldwide IP's ranges and their locations then using specially crafted firewall rules to block these ranges from your radio's port.

To implement these new features we will need to recompile the kernel on each server to add in the required modules. Here is the current status of each server and the requirements to get to this stage :

cp.internet-radio. org.uk server :
We are currently running the most recent distribution already so compiling in the new kernels modules should be quick and easy with no downtime required. This will be our first upgrade.

cp2.internet-radio. org.uk + shoutcast.internet-radio. org.uk :
The above two servers first require a distribution upgrade and will unfortunately entail some downtime. We estimate this downtime to be no longer than an hour each and we will be emailing all those affected with our time schedule for this. After the distribution upgrade it should be fairly simple to compile in the new kernel modules and enable Geo Locking.

We will keep you posted on our progress in this thread so check back for the latest information. :nerd: Any questions feel free to add below :

cp.internet-radio. org.uk server upgrade successful and complete. :) Any radio station hosted on cp.internet-radio .org.uk can now send us a request for which countries they would like blocked.

We are doing the distribution upgrades tomorrow afternoon. We have sent an email notification to all clients affected :

We have some server upgrades planned for tomorrow between 2PM and 4PM (GMT) that will affect your radio server running on cp2.internet-radio.com and shoutcast.internet-radio.com. We will need to reboot the servers as part of the upgrade. We have posted a thread in the forums with the full information here :

http://forum.internet-radio.com/news/3439-geo-locking-radio-server-upgrades.html

We will continue to post updates in the above thread.

TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) : We are upgrading the operating system on your server to allow us to implement Geo Locking for any clients that require it. This will allow you to optionally block whole countries from being able to tune into your radio. We expect minimal downtime (a few minutes) while the servers reboot after the upgrade.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

That sorted out the problem. shoutcast.internet-radio .org.uk now back online!

We will continue testing for minor issues but all the radio servers should be available now. Any problems please let us know.

Because of the difficulties we have missed or scheduled timeframe for the upgrade of cp2.internet-radio .org.uk so we will complete the upgrade of that server tomorrow. We will of course email all cp2 clients and let them know. The upgrade of cp2 should be much quicker and without as many issues now we have figured out how to resolve them.

We have noticed an error introduced by the upgrade which affected anyone running an Icecast server. Basically the configuration file required an update as it was breaking under out new Icecast kh29 branch. We have manually fixed all Icecast servers on cp2 / shoutcast control panels and restarted them. They all appear to be working fine now.

We have just fixed a bug that was introduced with the upgrade which affected Icecast servers. Basically the upgrade introduced icecast kh29 branch which centovacast allowed multiple instances to be run when it shouldn't be allowed. We have rolled back to the original pre-upgrade version now and its working fine. Apologies to the small subset of users who were affected by this.
