    Alexa Skill

Have you guys started offering the Google and Roku services yet? I'm finding Google a particularly tough nut to crack to get onto their platform, but then I'm not an expert.

    Internet Radio Networking

I think it's an excellent idea. I wouldn't limit it just to internet stations though. There are also a lot of community, small FM and digital stations out there who would probably find networking quite helpful.

    Feedback please

I just had a look at the site and it seems ok to me. The only slight criticism is the fixed text at the bottom of the screen is impossible to read because the player boxes scroll under it.

Why not join a REAL radio station?

Thanks to everyone who has been in touch recently offering shows etc. I have now replied to everyone who has e-mailed in, so if you don't have a reply from me, please check your spam filter etc. If you would like to get involved but haven't been in contact yet, it's not too late. We are looking...

Why not join a REAL radio station?

Hi Ian, Thanks for the message. We are based in Pleasley Vale, which is on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border, just outside Mansfield and quite close to J29 of the M1. The e-mail address for anything regarding the station is PVR@callpress.net Thanks

Why not join a REAL radio station?

Thanks for the tip-off. We have a number of similar domain names that all link to the websiteand I got the syntax of the link wrong while typing it. I've corrected the link now. Thanks.

Why not join a REAL radio station?

Are you looking for experience at a real plysical radio station? Would you like to broadcast from a properly equipped studio with professional kit? Are you always looking to learn more about professional broadcasting? If the answer to all of the above is yes, then why not become a volunteer with...

Complete beginner looking to get on the airwaves so to speak

You're the one talking bollo***! What PROPER radio presenter have you ever seen at work who doesn't have a mixer infront of them? I could go on but I really can't be bothered.

    Streaming Over HTTPS.

I don't dely people use Chrome, just saying Firefox doesn't give an issue. Since my last reply i checked with my stream provider (Zfast) and they apparently have a special link to use for your stream which makes it https instead of http so this problem goes away. Remember if the stream is...

    Streaming Over HTTPS.

I'd echo what SDR Talent Scout says. Our provider sends a stream that doesn't seem to cause any problems. We do mainly test on Firefox though, not Chrome. I don't like the Chrome browser

    Alexa Skill

This sounds like an excellent service and we'll probably be taking up your offer pretty soon. But can I just ask if this is just for Alexa or does it cover Google Home devices as well? I strongly believe smart speakers are the way forward for broadcast radio, jut getting a station listed on them...

Complete beginner looking to get on the airwaves so to speak

The equipment you have will make all the difference. Some people say you just need a computer and a microphone, but that will make it extremely difficult to make a professional sounding show. At the very least you will need two computers (one to play the music and jingles etc and the other to...

Need advice on audio levelling for tracks on my stations playlist

So if I've understood it right, the audio level of each track is consistent all the way through, just some tracks are louder than others? If that's the case is there a way of changing the broadcast level of each track in the playout software. We use Rivendell and each track can be adjusted in...

    Demo "Tape"

It's perfectly possible to make a demo using just Audacity, which is totally free yet very powerful software if used correctly. never send your demo a s an MP3 unless a station has specifically asked for it that way. In general MP3 files are not broadcast quality and your knowledge of that fact...

Need advice on audio levelling for tracks on my stations playlist

Levelling audio is a bit of a black art. the problem is ofte that a track needs different levels at different points. Eg the intro is quiet and needs boosting, but the middle of the song is ok or maybe even topping out. I've got a compressor / limiter doing some of this in hardware, but it's not...

    Progress report

I just wanted to give everyone a progress report on the current status of PVR. The fit out of our studio at Pleasley Vale is taking a lot longer than originally expected. This is partly due to time constraints and partly due to a few technical faults that have come to light and needed fixing...

    can you charge someone

A station can ask you to pay for your air time, but no decent staion ever would and here's why... The truth of the situation is there are two types of station that make money. Firstly there is the traditional radio station, which raises funds from ad revenue or from sponsorship (uaually again...

New station looking for all kinds of staff (not just music DJs)

Just letting everyone know things are now starting to progress at PVR. I've spent the last week building furniture and rebuilding one of our classic analogue mixers. It didn't have enough mic inputs as it stood, so I've added a couple more from another desk. A gate/compressor/limiter arrived in...

    WANTED: Speech-based radio shows.

Thanks to many of the people on this forum we are building up a good selection of music-based pre-recorded shows ready for our launch, which will hopefully happen sometime this spring. However we would also be VERY interested to hear from anyone who is producing (or would like to start...

New station looking for all kinds of staff (not just music DJs)

Hi Chris, Good news and bad news... First the bad news... We're not looking for any reggae DJs at the moment I'm afraid. Reggae and rap are two styles that don't really fit with what we'll be doing. We're more Radio 2 than we are 1 Extra. However, we would be very interested in doing something...
