About Soca Music

Soca (or soul calypso) is a form of caribbean dance music that originated in trinidad and tobago. Soca developed from calypso music and incorporated influences from cadence-lypso, soul and funk. Soca is characterised by combining the melodic and uplifting sound of calypso with repetitive percussion provided by indian musics instrumentation which came as result of there being a large indian population in trinidad (known locally in trinidad as chutney music). Soca now often incorporates electronic instrumentation instead.
