Reggaeton is a music genre which roots lie in latin american and caribbean music. It originated in the early 1990s and went on to gain widespread mainstream exposure in 2004. Reggaeton draws upon various musical influences and is a mixture of jamaican dancehall, caribbean soca and latin american genres such as salsa, latin american hip hop and electronica. Reggaeton is defined by its own particular beat and rhythm which is known as dem bow.
