About Alternative Music

Alternative rock emerged from the underground rock scene in the 1980s and went on to become very popular in the 1990s. Drawing an influence from punk rock, the term is given due to the genres non-mainstream ethos and its use of heavily distorted guitars and controversial lyrics.
